The Challenge
SMEDA, under the Ministry of Industries, was established to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Pakistan. By 2004, most SMEs were still dependent on manual accounting, making it difficult to manage finances, track operations, or access reliable data for growth.
The key challenges were clear:
Replace outdated manual processes with a modern system.
Create a solution scalable across 50+ diverse industries.
Ensure ease of use for first-time technology adopters.
Provide flexibility so businesses could adapt the system to their specific needs.
The Solution
Generix Solutions partnered with SMEDA to design and implement SMAP (SMEDA Accounting Package)—a free, user-friendly, and scalable bookkeeping solution tailored for SMEs.
The project followed a structured approach:
Business Analysis: Generix worked with SMEDA to capture detailed business and accounting requirements across different industries.
Development & Testing: Based on Generix’s Smart Business Suite, SMAP was built, tested, and enhanced with modules for trading, services, and manufacturing.
Training & Rollout: Extensive training programs were conducted to help SMEs adopt the system. Generix and SMEDA worked side by side during implementation to ensure smooth adoption.
Key features included:
Multi-user support with LAN networking.
Free ePOS module for retail businesses.
Nine business modules covering bookkeeping, invoicing, stock control, and management reporting.
The Outcome
The impact was transformative.
Over 25,000 SMEs across 200 cities downloaded SMAP.
More than 10,000 SMEs actively use it for bookkeeping and reporting.
SMAP has become the backbone of SME business operations in Pakistan and a core tool for SMEDA’s monitoring, control, and future planning.
Business owners reported higher efficiency, improved financial visibility, and better decision-making with the new system.
